The Importance of DIY Eyelash Extension Care
Traditional professional lash extensions and now DIY lashes have become increasingly popular because truly, it’s way easier to wake up with makeup than apply mascara daily. It’s important to remember that our natural eyelashes serve a purpose – to protect our eyes from dirt, debris, and bacteria. By learning how to care for lash extensions at home, you’re ensuring your eye health and safety. We often get asked, “are DIY lash extensions safe”, and the answer is YES! As long as you have proper DIY eyelash extension care.
Preserving Adhesive Strength
Our TAD 3D lashes use a cyanoacrylate free adhesive, Brilliant Bond. Brilliant Bond is extremely flexible, allowing your natural lashes to grow safely even while wearing TAD lash segments. We wanted an adhesive that would allow strong hold, extending the length of wear to up to 7 days, but it had to be flexible enough to not damage our lashes. By properly taking steps to have great DIY eyelash extension care , you’ll definitely hit that 7-day wear!
Maintaining Lash Curl
One of the coolest things about the TAD 3D printed lash system is that our lashes are created with 3D Memory Flex Technology. Our material ensures that your lashes will never lose their curl or shape. This means you can sleep on your face, get your DIY lash extensions wet, or even hop in a sauna, and the original lash curl will still be there when you’re finished!
Reducing the Risk of Bacterial Build-Up
As we mentioned before, our lashes are designed to block the dirt – which means they might collect dirt!! One of the biggest lash extension care tips we can share with you is to clean your lashes!
How to Take Care of DIY Eyelash Extensions: Complete Guide to DIY Lash Extension Maintenance
Let’s get into the deep lash extension care tips and details on how to take care of diy eyelash extensions. We are going to cover important things to consider during DIY lash application, daily wear, washing, and even care tips when thinking about how to remove your DIY lash extensions. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that you feel confident in how to care for lash extensions at home.
It All Starts With Proper Application
Even if you have applied DIY lashes before, the TAD lash system is unique, especially when it comes to application. Our 3D printed lashes have a unique microstructure that you will not find anywhere else. Let’s dive into how to apply your TAD 3D printed lashes.
Start with makeup free lashes and do one eye at a time.
Step 1: Prime white natural lashes with TAD Prep Pad.
Step 2: Apply “For YOU” white TAD adhesive to the base of your natural lashes; please note – less is more!
Step 3: Remove TAD lash segments from the scaffolding. Apply “For TAD” black adhesive right above the base of TAD lash segments.
Step 4: Apply lash segments from under your natural lashes, just beyond the waterline. For ultimate comfort and best retention, do not overlap the segments.
Step 5: Wait 3 minutes for the lashes to set. Gently squeeze to bond lashes together with TAD Precision Press.
Step 6: Allow to dry 1 to 2 minutes before applying a thin coat of TAD Pristine Seal under the natural lashes.
And presto! You are good to go! Everything mentioned in our step-by-step how to apply DIY lashes is included in TAD’s DIY lash kits. Each kit includes everything you need to apply your DIY lashes, as well as everything you need for lash extension maintenance.
Brushing Lashes Daily to Maintain Shape
If you have ever worn professional lash extensions, you might have been given a spoolie to brush your lashes daily. When it comes to DIY eyelash extension care, you can say goodbye to spoolies! Due to our 3D Memory Flex Technology, your lashes will always bounce back into place, even after they’re wet! You do not need to worry about brushing your lashes when wearing TAD!
Regular Eyelash Extension Washing
How to take care of diy eyelash extensions truly can’t be covered without detailing how to wash your lashes. It’s important to wash your lashes at least once a day, but it’s also safe to wash them morning and night. Our Pure Lash Cleanser is specifically designed for lash extensions and DIY lashes, and is packed with a powerful formula that fights off infections, dirt, blepharitis, and all the things that can mess with your lash health. Tested extensively, our formula guarantees your lashes stay stunning and healthy. We also have resources on how to clean DIY lash extensions on our blog.
Safely Sleeping With DIY Lashes
You wouldn’t be able to wear TAD lashes for 7 days if you couldn’t sleep in them! You definitely can sleep with DIY lash extensions. If you find your lash line not looking perfect when you wake up in the morning, our top DIY eyelash extension care tip is to use your TAD Precision Press and gently press your lashes together in the morning! It’s as easy as that!
Avoiding Makeup on the Lash Line
If you’re looking for extra glam, don’t worry—you can absolutely wear makeup while rocking your DIY eyelash extensions! The key to maintaining their longevity is proper lash extension maintenance. At the end of the day, gently cleanse around your eyes using an oil-free makeup remover, followed by TAD Pure Cleanser to keep your lashes clean and free of buildup. Understanding how to take care of DIY eyelash extensions means being mindful during your routine—avoid tugging or pulling on your lashes, especially when they’re wet, as this can weaken the adhesive. With the right care, your lashes will stay flawless and ready to enhance your look every day.
Handling Lashes with Care During the Day
As you’re living life, going through your day, just remember your lashes will look the best and stay on the longest when you leave them alone. Try not to rub, tug, or pick at your DIY lashes while wearing them. The best part of DIY lashes is that you can remove them whenever you want! So if you love to rub your eyes, just be sure to safely remove your lashes first!
Recognizing When DIY Lashes Are Past Their Prime
Now that you have a good understanding of how to take care of DIY eyelash extensions, you might be wondering how long do DIY lash extensions last? The TAD lash system is designed to last up to 7 days. This includes sleeping, showering, and everything in between. Let’s talk about how you know when it’s time to remove your DIY lash extensions.
Gaps or Uneven Lash Lines
When your DIY lashes are properly applied, the segments create a seamless lash line. If you notice a gap or unevenness, start by using the Precision Press to re-clamp your lashes and bring them back together. If the gap persists, it could mean the segments weren’t placed close enough during application.
If you catch this issue right after applying your lashes and haven’t yet clamped or sealed them with Pristine Seal, you can simply remove the segment and reapply it.
However, if it’s been a few days, the best approach for optimal lash extension maintenance is to remove your lashes completely and reapply them. Incorporating these lash extension care tips into your routine will help you keep your lash line flawless and fresh.
Lashes Losing Their Curl or Volume
We will highlight the benefit of our 3D printed lashes one more time – they will never lose curl or shape. Unfortunately, this is not true of all DIY lashes. As a tip, we want to share that when learning how to care for lash extensions at home, if you have not tried out TAD lashes yet, you might find that other brands’ lashes do not look as lifted after a day or two of wear. Almost all lashes available in the USA are made from PBT fiber, which will lose its curl with time. If you notice your lash design and style have changed from application, it’s time for a new set.
Noticeable Lifting at the Base
TAD’s microstructure are small hooks designed to hug your natural lashes, which will help prevent the segments from lifting at the base during wear. Some consider DIY lashes uncomfortable, and we bet you 9 out of 10 times it’s due to lifting lashes, which can cause poking into your eye. If you ever experience poking or notice your lashes lifting, it’s time for a new set, because no DIY eyelash extension care can help lifted lashes.
Difficulty Maintaining Cleanliness
We covered the importance of cleaning your DIY lashes when it comes to how to take care of DIY eyelash extensions, but if you are a glam girl that loves her makeup – think dark winged eyeliner – if you accidentally get makeup on your lashes consistently, you might struggle to clean them properly. How long your lash extensions last is also very dependent on how you treat and handle your lashes, keep that in mind!
How Long Do At-Home Lash Extensions Typically Last?
Here at TAD, we have team members that get up to 10 days out of their TAD lashes, and we have team members that prefer to take them off after 2 days! At-home lash extensions work with your needs and allow a flexibility that you won’t find with professional lash extensions. You have the power to apply or remove your lashes whenever you want!
